Indonesia After Waves Of Disaster: How Will It Rebuild? | Insight | Ring Of Fire
Since the powerful 9.1 magnitude earthquake and tsunami struck off the coast of Sumatra in December 2004, Indonesia had been hit by several other major earthquakes in a span of just a few months back in 2018. Among them, the July 2018 earthquake that hit the resort island of Lombok, the September 2018 earthquake and tsunami in Palu Sulawesi as well as the December 2018 volcanic eruption of the Anak Krakatoa and tsunami in the Banten province in West Java. Thousands of lives were lost in these tragedies and livelihood decimated. Have these provinces risen from the rubble years after the disaster?
Insight revisits some of Indonesia’s disaster-prone regions to find out how the communities there are coping. Have they been able to pick up the pieces, erase their painful memories and rebuild their lives all over again?
